EMS

OPFD is the First Response agency for the citizens of Ouachita Parish whether it is a fire, medical emergency or rescue situation. With 15 strategically located stations, we strive to provide the fastest response possible when an illness or injury occurs.

Approximately 125 of our personnel are trained and certified as emergency medical technicians (EMTs). They are able to perform Basic Life Support and begin Pre-hospital Emergency Care. Approximately 50 of our firefighters have achieved the certification of a Paramedic EMT. Our paramedics are trained and can perform Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) in the event of a sudden cardiac arrest. Each of our fire engines and rescue units have Automated External Defibrillators/Monitors with state-of-the-art monitoring, secure data sharing, escalating shocks, and essential CPR support. All of our firefighters are trained to provide time sensitive electrical shocks to persons that experience cardiac arrest. Each fire engine is equipped with a LUCAS device that delivers high-quality and American Heart guideline chest compressions to sudden cardiac arrest patients whether the patient is in the field, on the move, or in the hospital.

OPFD is instituting a quality assurance program by offering continuing education in ACLS, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, Advanced Medical Life Support and Pre-hospital Trauma Life Support to our personnel. The EMS Division is dedicated to providing the best pre-hospital care possible to the citizens of Ouachita Parish.
